Ultra X Mexico takes participants to Chihuahua, the home of the very original ultra-runners, the Tarahumara, and the spectacular mountain trails of the Copper Canyon. Made famous by the book “Born to Run”, this is surely the home of ultra running; and hence the home of Exile Medics.
November 2019 sees the second massive collaboration between the incredible team at Ultra X, and the incredible team at Exile Medics. In this union of dreams, we will journey to the Copper Canyons for the Ultra X Mexico; a 5 day 250km race through the plains and gorges of Chihuahua state. You’ll move base camp each day through the Mexican wilderness, with checkpoints spread through the Central American landscape. The Exile Medics team will be responsible for delivering the world class expedition care that we specialise in providing to participants from all over the world, each working to complete this challenge of a lifetime. You’ll sleep in Charro camps, eat Mexican fare, and top it all off with a fiesta under the stars.
Visit the race website here, and see below for more details about this astounding event, which is already one of the most exciting events that Exile Medics have ever ben involved in. Apply to join the Exile Team and discover why you studied medicine.
Mexico- the home of the Americas. Perfect place for Exile Medics to plant their flag and show them what we can do.

Cost: The Ultra-X Mexico 2019 costs £175 (including the necessary yet hated VAT at 20%) for the administrative fee. You will need to buy your flight, but will receive £100 towards it from the race organisers after the event. You will need to submit a claim for this via the website so that we can keep the paper trail together. There will be no accommodation or food costs and you will be sleeping in tents on cots which are provided. You’ll bring your own food.
Dates: You should aim to arrive at the General Roberto Fierro Villalobos International airport in Chihuahua on the 2nd November 2019, and will be accommodated in there prior to the event transferring us into the field on the morning of the 2nd November. The race will begin on the morning of the 4th November 2019 in Creel. You will be able to fly home from the 10th November. We strongly recommend that you organise a late flight, or a flight the following day to avoid the travel problems associated with Central America.
Food: You will need to bring all of your food for the week, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for each day. Cooking facilities will be boiling water at the end of each day.
Accommodation: Accommodation in Chihuahua and Creel will be arranged by the event in hotels, however during the week you are expected to sleep in your own tents with your own sleeping bags. No indoor accommodation is available where you’re going.
Communication: Mobile phone coverage is good in places, poor in others. We expect satellite phones to be in use where mobile coverage is poor.
