Peru Jungle Ultra 2019
Welcome to the Jungle. The Amazon is where Exile Medics was born, and in 2019 we're coming back home. You'll be the medical support for this 225km race through the rainforest, recently voted the number 1 race to do before you die. You will literally live and work in the deep rainforest, dodging snakes, spiders, jaguars and massive massive ants.
You start in the cloud forest before descending into the river valley to follow the Amazon to the finish line. Crashed planes and Amazonioan riverboats galore. Its a bit like Indiana Jones.
The Dates: 31st May - 9th June 2019
Application Deadline - 31st December 2018
Before you head to the application at the bottom of the page, see the details below
Cost: The Jungle Ultra costs £180 (which includes the unfortunate VAT) for the administrative fee, and you will need to buy your flight. You will receive about £300 back towards your flight. Compare this to the cost of arranging your own expedition in the the Peruvian Amazon and you'll agree that this is a good deal.
Dates: You should aim to be in Cusco on the evening of the 30th May 2019, because departure on the morning of the 31st May tends to be very early. The Jungle Ultra finishes on the 9th of June in Cusco and you will get yourself to Cusco airport that day- so you can fly anytime.
Food: You will need to bring all of your food for the week, including snacks and food for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day. Cooking facilities will be boiling water or your own camp stoves if you bring one. There will be an opportunity to buy fuel in Cusco if you arrive before the shops close. Cusco has a wide range of outdoor shops which should cater for your stove.
Accommodation: On the evening of the 30th May you will need to arrange your own accommodation. Cusco has a wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets. The remainder of the week is spent in your hammock, and we suggest that you bring your sleeping mats and a good quality sleeping bag because the jungle is cold at night. On the evening of the 8th June you will be staying i a hotel that the event will provide.
Communication: Mobile phone coverage is good in places, poor in others. We will have satellite phones to communicate between teams and to contact the UK.
Flights: You will need to buy your flights to Cusco. The Jungle Ultra finishes on the 9th of June and you will be free to go the airport at any time that day. We recommend that you arrange an afternoon flight home to ease your travels.
Visa: At present, there is no visa requirement for UK passport holders. Please be aware that we do not know the potential impact of Brexit on travel as yet. Please check with your local Peruvian consulate prior to booking any travel that the requirements haven't changed for your particular passport.
