This practical 2-day conference programme is designed to cover tall the aspects of expedition and wilderness medicine, whether you’re a novice or experienced wilderness medic. MedFest is an immersive experience so real that you’ll be totally at home with whatever your wilderness career throws at you. Whatever your level of experience, clinical skill or enthusiasm, this is medical learning like no other!
Medfest offer a choice food for everyone! On registration you’ll be on the receiving end of a goody bag which includes your Saturday breakfast and lunch ration pack, but you’ll need your stove to cook it! Pizza slices will be served Friday night with an option to buy a whole pizza if you’re really hungry, or have a pizza addiction. A hog roast (with a veggie option) is served on the Saturday night, but if this doesn’t float your culinary boat, then feel free to bring your own stove or BBQ and cook your own! Fresh pastries are served on Sunday morning but remember, this is wilderness- do what you must to survive!
Take an early morning 5km run each day with Sophie Ruffles, long distance runner and Asics sponsored athlete setting the pace. Sophie will share her tips for training and combining am incredible running career with being a hotshot lawyer and mum.
Bring your trainers!
Medfest will provide you tea and coffee aplenty. However, sometimes a fresh Colombian espresso or a flat white is the only thing that will cut it on an early morning when there’s learning afoot. We hear your call. And so, Towbar will be serving up a variety of fresh coffee of for those you you with niche needs, speciality teas, throughout the weekend.
Drinks are provided by our friends from The Tow Bar, where Steven and Julia will make sure that the party rocks long into the evening. Bring cash and cards to make sure that you’re well supplied with all your beverage needs. Medfest will provide the socially lubricating mulled wine and cider during the networking events to ease your transition into the wilderness world.
You also have the option to bring your own if you have a niche requirement, or you simply need a quantity that no trailer could provide.
The Exile MedFest soundtrack is led by the awesome Alfie Kingston and the Hot Hats. An Exile staple, Alfie and the gang will rock the festival from the end of the learning into the night.
Follow this up with the Moonlight Club into the night, and you’ll have a Saturday evening not to forget
If festivals aren’t your thing, then have no fear. In the main marquee there’ll be expedition videos and films playing for you to cosy up to with your friends, or strangers-yet-to-be-friends.
Career Development & Networking
At Medfest 2019, you’ll meet medics who have worked in humanitarian, event and expedition medicine roles on every corner of the globe. You’ll be able to chat face to face with people who’ve been where you want to go, done what you want to do, and share your wilderness dreams and desires. Whether you’re a nurse, doctor, paramedic, physiotherapist, student or anyone else with a passion for the more remote parts of our planet, you will have the chance to talk to experienced professionals in your field. There will also be a CV clinic and a chance to chat to the Exile Medics team about how to get involved in 2020.
Don’t know what medical kit you’d take on an expedition? Now’s the time to find out. Using all the resources available at Exile MedFest, you’ll master the oft overlooked quartermaster skill in no time. Through workshops, seminars and good old fashioned hands on, you’ll see what kit is useful in the wilds, and what can stand up to the trials of remote area travel.
