This is a big leap forward- our first event with the mighty Punk Panther race series! This unique series delivers ultra marathons in Gods Own Country, Yorkshire. In their infinite wisdom, they’ve chosen the Exile Medics to look after everyone involved in these adventures.

In this first outing, we’ve taken on providing expert care on the Dales Way Challenge, an 80 miles within 36 hours ultra marathon taking place over the guaranteed spectacularly weathered* weekend of 17-18th August 2019 (*weather not guaranteed).

Ask anyone who’s been an Exile on our UK events, and you’ll know that just because its in the UK, its isn’t any less wilderness, and we expect to be busy from dawn till dusk during the day and night. The dales have been the site of some of our most injured, sick participants, and some of the most fraught rescues. You must feel up to this challenge! You’ll arrive on the evening of the 16th August and camp out with the Exile team, receiving your kit, briefings and strategy, before heading out into the field to do your thing. As ever, you’ll have senior medical support on site to lend a hand if you need it, and all the medical kit will be supplied by Exile Medics. We’ll encourage you to bring your bikes or off road vehicles to the event, but it isn’t necessary.

As an incentive, the 2019 race will be the launch of our certification programme, and will earn you credits towards your UK ultra medic certification. More on this to come!

This is one of those events that is great for you to dip your toe in the expedition and wilderness waters, see if its your thing and make a name for yourself for other Exile Medics expeditions. We really want to encourage early career doctors, paramedics, nurses and physiotherapists to apply for this one, and it’ll be a strong addition to your applications for other Exile Medics expeditions.

Think you can deliver? Apply here now and psych yourself up for the full Exile Medics experience

You’ll need a tent and some camping equipment- we'll confirm the campsite location nearer the time

There is a £20 Exile Medics administration fee which covers public and employers liability insurance, clinical support and medical equipment. Its a good deal- promise.

Cost: The Dales Way Challenge costs £30 (which includes the unfortunate VAT) for the administrative fee, and you will need to get yourself there.

Dates: You should aim to be in Bowness-on-Windermere on the evening of the 16th August 2019, and can head off on the evening of the 18th August. The race will complete shut down at 2030 in Ilkley, but you will be stood down as early as possible if you need to get away.

Food: You will need to bring all of your food for the days, including snacks and food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bring your own camp stoves if you have one. We do not know if you will be able to get hold of food and drink along the route, so plan for the worst!

Accommodation: We expect that you will need to camp each night in the wilds, so come prepared for that.

Communication: Mobile phone coverage is good, and will be the principal mode of communication.

Flights: Unless you join us from overseas, no flights are required.

Visa: If you join us from overseas, you may need a visa. Please check with your local United Kingdom consulate prior to booking any travel that the requirements haven't changed for your particular passport.

We need nurses, physiotherapists, medical students and doctors for this one. All can apply

We especially want to encourage F1, F2 and early career Paramedics, Nurses and Physiotherapists to join us for the Dales Way Challenge. See if you like Exile Medics…
